Whilst the architecture can be rather daunting, the restaurants and bars of Vienna are very welcoming, which is useful as it is decidedly a city to get lost in (and not always on purpose).
The summer months play host to numerous music festivals, ranging from classical to jazz through modern dance and the streets are over-taken with performers and other general revellers.
As far as weekend breaks go, Vienna is a very cultural one; this vibrant city is postiveley bristling with museums, markets and galleries, assuming you can tear yourself away from the multitude of cafes for long enough to actually visit them.
